Graduate School of Business

2nd-year student

Hello. I’m Evgeniya from Russia. I have liked foreign countries since I was a child and studied English and Spanish. But it was my desire to study the language of a country with a completely different culture from Russia’s that led to my interest in Japan. I was also interested in Japan’s distinctive high-quality manufacturing, and so I decided to study business at Doshisha Business School (DBS). I like that the curriculum allows students to acquire both academic logic and practical skills directly linked to work. Below, I will describe some of my lifestyle.

Weekly Schedule

I have classes on weekday nights and on Saturdays. I use the rest of my time for studying and to do things that I enjoy.

scene1 Self-Study at the University

The Business School has classes at night on weekdays and on Saturdays. There are many kinds of students, including people who are company executives. That means we can have discussions from diverse standpoints, which is stimulating. Sometimes a craftsperson from one of Kyoto’s traditional industries will come talk to a class as a guest speaker, and that is very interesting. Even on days that I don’t have class, I often study on my own at school.

scene2 Working Out
at the Gym to Refresh

I like to move my body and so I go to a sports gym three times a week. Health management is important after all.

scene3 Shopping Near My Place,
Since I Cook for Myself

I usually cook for myself. Although Kyoto is a big city, it is an easy place to live, as all the necessary facilities are to be found within a compact daily living area. Shopping is convenient and there is nothing that causes me trouble.

scene4 Indulging My Love of Traveling
and Going Out Drinking
on Days Off

On days off, I refresh myself by traveling or going out for a drink with friends. Also, Kyoto has many historical sites, and so it is a good place where you can feel Japan’s history without going far.

Q&A
Q.1
What surprised you about living in Kyoto?
A.1
I was surprised to see maiko nearby!

An area near where I live is well-known for maiko and geisha, and I was surprised to encounter them in my daily life. I think that having everyday contact with Japanese culture in this way is one of the things that makes Kyoto so fun.

Q.2
What do you like about studying at Doshisha University?
A.2
The diverse environment is interesting!

Especially at the Business School, it is stimulating being able to study with people who have diverse backgrounds, including the teachers. In particular, the chance to study together with people who work at companies in Kyoto’s traditional industries and to listen to talks by traditional craftspeople is one of Kyoto’s uniquely interesting points. You can make varied networks and learn so much from everyone.
